My public scholarship connects critical research on aging, dementia, and disability with community-based dialogue and creative practice. Through public lectures and participatory workshops, I collaborate with equity-deserving communities to challenge cultural stigma, foster critical reflection, and promote more inclusive understandings of aging and dementia.

Public Lecture

September 9, 2026

"Rethinking Old Age and Dementia"

Delivered an invited public lecture attended by more than 100 Korean Canadian older adults in Calgary. The lecture critically examined cultural perceptions of aging and dementia through interactive discussions and activities. It aimed to challenge internalized ageist stereotypes and deficit-based narratives while encouraging more inclusive understandings of later life.

The lecture included interactive activities inviting participants to reflect on what they have gained and lost through aging. Participants also shared words and associations that came to mind when thinking about dementia, providing an opportunity to critically examine cultural stigma, fear, and assumptions surrounding the condition.
